TYPO3 Extension Roundup 3rd Quarter 2017

The third quarter of this year is passed and it is time for the extension roundup. But before presenting the extensions for the last three months, I have some news for you regarding the coverage of TYPO3 extensions.

Future coverage of extensions

Not every extension will be published via the TYPO3 extension repository any more. Main reason is, that composer makes it very easy to include extensions from other sources, like Packagist, Github or Bitbucket.

Starting with the next issue of the Extension Roundup, I will also search for interesting extensions on these services. But I need your help: I need to find your extension. This is only possible if your set the tags and topics correctly. Here are the keywords and topics, I will look for:

  • packagist.org (keywords): typo3-cms-extension
  • github.com (topic): typo3-extension

If you use one of these services and do not publish your extension via TER, please set the keyword or the topic with the above phrases.

For Bitbucket and Gitlab I currently do not know, how to search for a label or a category. If you do, please drop me a note. Thanks.

But now, let’s go with the extensions for the last quarter …

Extensions in Q3

Invoke scheduler tasks via GET requests (EXT:scheduler_http)

This extension allows to trigger scheduler task runs via an http request. This is necessary, for example, if your provider does not allow cron jobs at all. The requests are secured by using accessTokens and accessLists.

Images in RTE CKeditor (EXT:rte_ckeditor_image)

One feature of the old rte was the so called “magic images”. This feature allowed the editor to add images within an RTE enabled field. Because to do so, is considered “bad practise”, it was dropped, when integrating the CKEditor. On the other hand you might be forced to update a TYPO3 instance with many of such images. This extension brings back that functionality.

FormZ Modern form handler (EXT:formz)

Forms are a very central part of a when it comes to interaction between the website user and the one, who is running the website. Besides the well known extensions form (from the TYPO3 core) and Powermail, this is a quite new player in that area. So give it a try and check whether it fits your needs.

Since TYPO3 V7 there is an avatar support for backend users. Unfortunately every user must upload his / her own image. This extension makes an end to this and uses the profile image uploaded to Gravatar. Gravatar stands for “Globally Recognized Avatar”. For more info see for example https://en.gravatar.com/
